One of the oldest documentation
of reflexology is on the wall of a tomb in Saqqara, Egypt. The tomb belongs to an Egyptian physician named Ankmahor and dates
back to between 2330 and 2500 B.C. There is a picture of two men working on the feet of two other men with an inscription
of the patient saying “Do not hurt me.” and the therapist is saying “I shall act so you praise me.”
(Vennells). This shows that even thousands of years ago people were able to recognize the benefits and validity of reflexology
or a practice equivalent to it. It is also believed that before the use of shoes when people would walk on sand, in the forest,
and on the earth our feet were constantly being massaged and the energy flow was constant. This was like a natural reflexology
session (Gillanders 10).
As far back as 5,000 years ago,
the Emperor Hawng of china wrote the book "Hei Jing" meaning relax zones and their observation. In the Han Dynasty the Famous
doctor, Hwa-Tuo described Toa of Foot Center and the word spread all the way to Japan. In the Yuen Dynasty, the 14 meridians
were published, and many of the books found their way all over the world. After 1880 A.D., these findings were forgotten,
even in China, until 1935 when Franz Eugster, a Swiss missionary, brought foot massage back to China by giving talks and demonstrations
to churches and hospitals in Taiwan.
Reflexology works with
the relationship between the body's organs, limbs and nerves that has been recognized for thousands of years by many civilizations.
There is a distinct relationship between the hands feet and ears and the organs of the body, and applying pressure to these
areas can affect the organs of the body. Ancient healing techniques include anointing the feet with scared oils.
This healing technique is used on
patient to instill feeling so relaxation and speed healing. This treatment can benefit patients of all ages.

Reflexology is perfectly safe for everyone from
a new born baby to the oldest most fragile individual. Reflexology is used as a pain blocker. There are approximately seven
thousand nerve endings in the feet. When stimulated by reflexology, they send signals to the brain to produce endorphins,
natural pain blockers many times stronger than morphine. this natural hormone overpowers the pain impulse, the pain disappears
and the body starts to relax so the healing can take place. We use reflexology successfully in every painful situation, even
on terminally ill patients to enhance their quality of life by eliminating pain, sometimes completely. They do not have to
endure, nor do their families have to witness, suffering to the end.
Reflexology is a total holistic
approach. Body, mind and spirit are balanced and harmonized by adjusting a person's lifestyle: changes in the physical body,
their mental attitudes and the balance of their spiritual life. If there is total harmony and balance in someone's life, sickness
and pain cannot survive; our body can cope well in a crisis and adjust constantly to our roller coaster lifestyles.
In Psalm 139:14 David said, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works." Yes, we are the most
beautiful creations on the earth; the body can repair 80 percent of our ailments, if we give it the needed instrument to do
the work. A violin needs to be tuned to make harmonious melodies, our bodies healthy, natural food to keep them in harmonious
tone. Reflexology, as a preventative approach, will add to our well-being by eliminating toxins from the body, will repair
tissues, relieve pain and balance the nervous system.
